This is an article about how to implement SEO for small and medium sized Businesse who don’t have the budget to hire expensive SEO specialists and consultants.
As most of us know by now, SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO is the discipline that one needs to learn to get their web sites and web pages to the top of the search engines.
The first question that I am often asked by people starting out in a small to medium sized business is this: “Do I need SEO?”
When business owners ask this question, they are often flustered because they have just paid a company good money to design and implement their website. Then, they realize that nobody visits their website. Often, it was assumed that web traffic was part of their purchase plan from the web design company but this is never the case.
So, now business owners who thought they were done paying for Internet exposure are only just beginning. You have to pay to get web traffic. This can be done through an advertising vehicle such as Google AdWords or by implementing effective SEO for their small business. Of course, some small business owners try to learn SEO themselves, but in the end, this costs a lot of money in the form of time lost, time that you should use to attend to their principle business.
Seemingly out of nowhere, small business owners are faced with an expense that they did not budget for and it can be very expensive. Both Internet advertising and professional SEO services can run well over $1,000 dollars a month and sometimes into the five figures. This is an unplanned expense that can cripple small and medium sized businesses.
So, what is a small business owner to do?
Entrepreneurs and smaller businesses have to get to the very fundamentals of search engine optimization, create an effective plan, and designate one of their employees (or themselves) to consistently implement this plan for two to three hours each day.
The fundamentals of SEO are as follows. You must write about what people are searching for and then create pages that have solid on-page SEO. For example, let’s say that you are a dentist in Detroit and would like to attract people who are searching for “Detroit Dentist”. You need to create your web page with those keywords in the title of the document and then mention “Detroit Dentist” a few times within the article. This is called on-page SEO.
Following that, you need to market the page that you just created. This is called creating inbound links and is the most import component of SEO. Thus, you will want to write articles about dentistry and post them in various locations, such as EzineArticles.com. These locations will allow you to link back to your website and you want to link back using the term Detroit Dentist.
